Men of the Matches!

Finally, your Man of the Match winners for the season sees Jordan at the top again, Uncle Pete will be proud as punch!

All I can say is that his other five games must have been terrible for him not to make the average ratings table!

The rest are spreading the good performances around while somehow Alex produced a half point (how does that happen!?).

Keep up the good work Pacers, there’s still lots to play for and we’ll get the rewards we deserve in the second half of the season.

Ps, did anyone see Ben Hanney in any of those lists?

Help!

Of course, goals don’t come without assists and gaffer Nick has assisted his way to the top of the mid-season league with a healthy five.

Kevlar once again makes an appearance on the strength of one good game, while the rest of the team really need to start chipping in.

Interestingly, no sign of Jordan in that list.

Top Scorers so far

Next up is the top goalscorer table where Jordan is out to avenge his last-game defeat to Greedy Ash last season and comfortably leads the way from Sean and Alex.

Keeping the pressure on are Nick and Kevlar with two and three goals respectively in the 7-2 mauling of the Crabs the other week.

Go big heed!

Mid-season Report

It’s that time of year when the management and pundits deliver their mid-season report cards, and things are no different at PPFC.

First up are the average ratings for the season so far.  Only those who have played in 50% of the games are eligible for this and I now present to you the current top five Pacer performers:

Go Nashy!

As you can see, Nashy is storming the table as the only Pacer with a 7+ average so far.  His solid defensive performances coupled with some excellent spells in nets make him the man to beat.

Last season’s Player Of The Year, Alex, seems to have let his standards slip a bit and trails big bro by a gnat’s whisker.

Alessio is a solid fourth but needs a few more games under his belt if he is to stay there (Dove e il stallione italiano!?) with Good Ash making up the top five but still lots to play for in what should be an interesting battle to the end of the season.

More to follow…

Pacers 7 – 2 Sporting Crabs

By Nashy

You would probably be forgiven for thinking that 2013 will be a year full of bizarre events after Pacers cruised to only their second league win of the season with a 7-2 demolition of Sporting Crabs.

Not only that, but the strange events that unfolded on South Park last Sunday still seem very surreal even as I write this.

Pacers lined up with Nashy in goal, Oli, Nick E, Ivo and Spracks across the back; Sean, Alex, Ash and Nick in midfield and Lewis and Kevlar up front.

Yes I did say Kevlar up front.

The opening exchanges were fairly even, with much of the game being played in midfield, before Crabs started to craft a few half-chances and Kev having one ruled out for off-side.

The deadlock was broken midway through the first half when, after a bit of a scramble in the box, Lewis was on hand to coolly slot home at the back post.

That opened up the game a bit more as Crabs went on the offensive but some good counter-attacking down the wings from Sean and Nick caused the Crabs endless problems, mainly due to the fact that they can only run sideways, and brought about many corners.

Unsurprisingly, then, the second goal came from such a corner with Alex heading home after a very fine delivery from big bro’.

At 2-0 Pacers would have been happy to go into the break knowing that a tight performance might see them through but Kevlar, due to don the gloves for the second half, decided that he would throw a spanner into the works.

The result was a tidy finish at the back post making it 3-0 at half time and buying himself a bit more time up front for the second half.

A good decision as it turned out as Kev pounced on to a clever flick on from Good Ash early in the second half to go clear through and finish like a true centre forward to make it four.

On a brace and clearly not going between the sticks, Kev turned provider, not once, but twice with two carbon copy cutbacks falling to Nick to slot home.

All of a sudden it was 6 and Pacers were cruising. Cue the collapse.

It was a minor collapse and a tiny stain on a good performance but some poor marking from a set piece followed by a bit of a slow charge out to close down shots meant that Crabs had two back.

Cue the referee meltdown.

Having booked many players in the first half for the Crabs, the ref decided that Alex should have a booking for shouting ‘I’ve got’, despite not awarding a free kick.

Next in the book were Ash and Nash for only telling him once that they were swapping goalkeepers, rather than the logical two times needed to avoid a booking.

He probably booked more too but by now we had lost interest in him trying to steal Kev’s limelight, and on his big day, Kev finished the perfect hat-trick with a header after a pin-point delivery from Nick.

Job done and the new Paul Warhurst is born.

Don’t remember him? I only do as an owl so maybe Kev’s heroics will be forgotten one day and we can all just get on with our normal lives!

Credit to him though. Pure class.

All in all a fantastic performance and some great statistics for many of the great performers in a good solid team win.

Happy 2013.
